What a Water Filtration System Actually Costs in Charlotte

$2,900 installed for a city home. $4,500 installed for a well.

That is the whole answer. You can stop reading here if that is all you came for.

If you have been shopping this category you already know why that sentence is unusual. Nobody publishes a price. You book a free test, someone comes to your house, and the number arrives at your kitchen table an hour later, and then it moves. Down if you seem hesitant. Down again if a manager gets called. The word for that is not a price.

So we put ours on a page. Two rates, because a house is either on city water or on a well, and those are the two jobs.

Published pricing

What the two rates cover.

Line by line, because the inclusions are where home-services quotes usually do their hiding.

Every price we publish. Installed, flat, in writing.

$2,900 city mixed-bed system with tankless RO. The standard rate.
$3,500 dual-tank city system with tankless RO. Separate carbon and softener tanks, about 12 to 17 years of media life, for larger households.
$4,500 well water system. The standard rate.
$2,300 coconut-carbon or $2,500 catalytic-carbon whole-home system with tankless RO. No softening, no salt.
$700 tankless reverse osmosis on its own.
$100 yearly RO filter set if you change it, $150 if we do.

Warranty on every package: tanks and ceramic valve discs for life, control valve, board and media 5 years, install labor and the RO unit 1 year.

Arsenic remediation and UV for bacteria are priced at the test, in writing. A small number of wells contain something the standard build genuinely cannot fix, and those two are the ones. They are quoted as their own itemised line with the lab result attached, and if we did not name it at the test we do not add it afterwards. We are not publishing a number for either one until we can stand behind a published number for every house, and we would rather say that plainly than print a figure that moves.

Financing: 24 months at 0%. That is about $121 a month on the city rate and about $188 a month on the well rate. We write the term next to the monthly number because a monthly figure with no term attached is the oldest trick in home services.

What it costs to own. We hand you a written total at the test that includes the first year’s filter or salt cost, because the cost of owning the thing is the part that surprises people two years in. Ask any company you are talking to for that number in writing. It is a fast way to sort out who is comfortable with the question.

Nobody publishes a lower installed price. Find one, we’ll beat it.

That stands against both rates, the $2,900 and the $4,500.

Published, installed, like-for-like, Charlotte metro. Show us a competitor’s own published installed price for a comparable whole-home system in our service area and we will beat it. It has to be a number they printed, not one somebody said in a kitchen, because a price nobody will print is not a price.

The comparison

What everyone else charges.

A premium national dealer, the Culligan, Kinetico and RainSoft tier, quotes $7,500 to $11,000 for a comparable full combination system in this market. That figure comes from our own July 2026 survey of Angi, HomeAdvisor, HomeGuide and published dealer quotes for the Charlotte area.

We are not claiming to be the cheapest. We have not seen every quote in the Carolinas and neither has anyone else who tells you they are. What we are claiming is narrower and checkable: our price is on this page, and theirs is not.

The market range

Premium national dealer, full combination system

  • $7,500 to $11,000 for a comparable full combination system in this market.
  • Compiled from Angi, HomeAdvisor, HomeGuide and published Culligan, Kinetico, RainSoft and EcoWater dealer quotes.
  • We are not going to characterize that gap with an adjective. Ours are two numbers and they are above.

What we could not find

Checked 3 September 2026

  • We looked for a published installed price on culligancharlotte.com, kinetico.com and cgchomeservices.com and did not find one on any of them.
  • That is a dated observation about three websites, not a claim about every company in the Carolinas.
  • Family-run is nice. Published prices are better.

If your house needs less, you pay less. This is the part that runs backwards from the rest of the industry, where “custom” is the word that appears right before the number goes up. The standard rate is a ceiling for a typical house, not a starting point. If your test says you need a drinking-water system and no softening, that is quoted on its own and it lands under $2,900. If a well only needs iron and sediment handled, it lands under $4,500. The only direction a quote moves here is down.

“I can buy a softener online for $947. Why is yours $2,900?”

Good question, and there is a real answer to it.

SoftPro Water Systems sells water softeners and whole-house filters online with exact prices on every product, split into city and well lines the same way ours are. Their published prices run from $947 for a well softener to $1,517 for an iron filter, with free shipping and a stated lifetime warranty on the product line.

That is a real price and it is a fair one for the equipment. It is not the same thing we are quoting.

Ours is an installed price: licensed install, sized to your readings, tested before we leave, old gear hauled off, and a lifetime tank and valve warranty from a company in this metro that answers its phone. If you want to buy a system online and put it in yourself, do it. Plenty of people do, and it is a legitimate way to spend less money. What we publish is the installed number, and nobody publishes a lower one.

How the free test works

The test is what turns two published rates into your number. Nothing on this page is a quote until somebody has measured your water.

  1. Book the test

Pick a time, including weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. It takes about 45 minutes and it costs nothing.

  2. We measure

Hardness, chlorine, total dissolved solids, pH and iron, read at your kitchen tap while you watch. You keep the readings.

  3. You get a number

The standard rate if the standard build is what your water needs, or a smaller custom number if it is not. Plus the running cost for the first year. Written down before we leave.

  4. We install

Usually inside the same week. Licensed install, tested on the spot, old equipment hauled away.

Pricing questions, answered

How much does a whole-house water filtration system cost in Charlotte?

Ours is $2,900 installed for a city home. A premium national dealer typically quotes $7,500 to $11,000 for a comparable full combination system in this market, per our July 2026 survey of published dealer quotes and home-services pricing data.

How much does a water softener cost to install?

For a well home, softening is included in our $4,500 installed well water system. For a Charlotte city home the more useful answer is that you probably do not need one: city water here measures 32 mg/L, which is soft.

How much does a reverse osmosis system cost?

Tankless reverse osmosis is included in every whole-home package we publish. On its own it is $700 installed, seven-stage, no storage tank under the sink. The yearly filter set is $100 if you change it and $150 if we do.

Do you offer financing?

24 months at 0%, which is about $121 a month on the city rate and about $188 a month on the well rate. We print the term beside the monthly figure, because a monthly number with no term attached is not information.

Will the price change after you come out?

Only downward. The standard rate is a ceiling for a typical house. If the test says your house needs less than the standard system, it gets quoted on its own and comes in under the rate. The two exceptions are arsenic remediation and UV for bacteria, which are named at the test with the lab result attached, in writing, or not at all.

What does it cost to maintain?

We give you the first year’s filter or salt cost in writing at the test, before you decide anything. Ask every company you talk to for that same number in writing.

The same two rates, by service and by town.
