Often, less than you expected.
The real story here is disinfection byproducts. Trihalomethanes at a highest running annual average of 60.8 ppb against an 80 ppb limit, and haloacetic acids at 39.3 against a 60 ppb limit, both from the 2025 report. Both compliant. Both closer to the line than Charlotte’s. Carbon filtration at the point of entry addresses them, and reverse osmosis at the kitchen tap addresses what you drink.
Not a softener. Not on this supply, and you have the utility’s own words for it.
Gaston County wells are the other half of this market and a completely different job. The general Piedmont pattern of iron, manganese, low pH and radon applies, no agency tests a private well, and North Carolina’s Radon-in-Water Advisory Committee mapped parts of Gaston County inside its seven areas of particular radon susceptibility. Our well water system is $4,500 installed.
